The 52nd Merseburg Organ Days

The Merseburg Organ Festival is one of the major organ festivals in Europe. They have a firm place in the musical life of Saxony-Anhalt and attract numerous music lovers from all over the world to the Merseburg Imperial Cathedral every September. This year, too, the Friends of Music and the Preservation of Monuments in Churches in the Merseburg Region, led by Michael Schönheit, the organist of Merseburg Cathedral, have planned an outstanding musical event from 10 to 18 September 2022.

The 52nd Merseburg Organ Days are held under the motto "Auf dass die Seele sich verschöne, gab uns der Himmel die Musik" (Robert Schumann) in commemoration of the birth and death anniversaries of great composers.

The Vereinigte Domstifter zu Merseburg und Naumburg and the Kollegiatstift Zeitz are pleased to announce that since this year there is a main sponsor of the Merseburg Organ Days: MVV Energie. "This means that we can safely continue a great musical event in Saxony-Anhalt for the next few years, and we are very grateful to MVV Energie for this," says the Collegiate Treasurer of the United Cathedral Foundations, Bastian Borck, about the sponsorship agreement. Starting this year, MVV Energie will support the Merseburg Organ Days with an annual sum of Euro 25,000 for the next five years.

MVV Executive Board member Dr. Hansjörg Roll: We operate several green generation plants in Saxony-Anhalt and, with TREA Leuna near Merseburg, a state-of-the-art waste treatment plant. Making the region sustainable in terms of energy is just as important to us as supporting this top-class cultural and artistic event with our contribution!
